Yes, Hope starts here. At the Cross. The Bible says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His One and Only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) How do you find this hope? Just remember your A B C ‘s!
A – Admit
Admit to God that you are a sinner. Everyone has sinned; nobody is as perfect as God. “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23).
B – Believe
Believe that Jesus Christ, who died on the cross to pay the punishment for sin, is the Son of God and the only One whose death can save you. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
C – Confess and Commit
Confess to God that you want to change, and that you believe that Jesus Christ is the only one who can save you. Commit to following Christ wherever He may lead you. “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved….For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. ” (Romans 10:9, 13)
Here’s a suggested prayer:
“Lord Jesus Christ, I know I am a sinner and do not deserve eternal life. But I believe You died and rose from the grave to purchase a place in heaven for me. Lord Jesus, come into my life; take control of my life; forgive my sins and save me. I am sorry for what I’ve done and for trying to control my own life. I now place my trust in You for my salvation. I accept the free gift of eternal life. Thank You for saving me. Amen.”
Now that you have put your hope in Jesus Christ, the Bible says that you are a child of God. “Yet to all who receive Him, to those who believe in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” Like any father, God wants to best for His children. He wants you to grow, He wants you to stay away from actions and decisions that will in the end hurt you, but mostly He wants to get to know you. There are 3 main ways to develop a close relationship with God:
1. Read the Bible. The Bible is called the Word of God because God speaks to us through the words with the help of the Holy Spirit. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16)
2. Pray to God. Praying is not just talking to God, but listening to Him as He speaks to your spirit. Through prayer we praise God for His love and goodness, we ask Him for His help and guidance, we confess to Him when we have sinned, and we ask Him for His provisions. “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, holy is Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.'” (Matthew 6:9-13)
3. Find a church. The church is called the body of Christ, and we all have an important part to play. “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” We meet regularly to worship God, learn more about Him, and support one another. If you do not already have a church family, please contact us and we can help you find a church in your area.
