Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” - (Acts 4:12)

This year’s Christmas Cantata is called “His Name Is Jesus”. It, like many cantatas before it, tells of the many names that describe Jesus – Messiah, Savior, Emmanuel, Prince of Peace, etc. But it takes this concept one step further. Not only does it describe the many names by which Jesus is called, but it describes the power available to us when we call on Jesus’ name.

Too often I forget the power that is available to me in the name of Jesus: the power to defeat all the sin in my life, not just the first time, but every time. Like a child that tells their sibling, “Mom said you have to give me a piece of candy,” calling on the authority of “Mom”, we can call on the name of Jesus, to whom all authority in heaven and earth has been given (Matt 28:18). We can tell fear, “In Jesus’ name, leave!” We can tell temptation, “You have no power over me!” Yes, it really works!

Friends, we don’t have to struggle through this life alone! There’s a King above every other king, there is a power above every other power, there is a name above every other name – and His name is Jesus!

In Christ,

Amy Smith
