February 2022

“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.” - (Psalm 42:5)

February is probably my least favorite month. Everything still looks so dead, I’m tired of being cold all of the time, and it seems like winter is just dragging on. Everything just seems so stagnant. Yet there is movement behind what I can see. Weather changes are bringing in warmer air, the sap in the trees is starting to move to prepare for fresh, green leaves, and daffodils are breaking through, hiding just under the layer of dry leaves. Although nothing seems to be happening, I can hold onto the hope of spring.

Maybe you feel like you’re stuck in a winter season of your life. Nothing seems to be going right, and you’re surrounded by despair and fear. You may wonder, “Is God even doing anything?” Have hope! God is moving just below the surface. You may not be able to see Him working now, but He has not abandoned you or forgotten you. Put your hope in God; praise Him for the things He is doing that you cannot see, and for the things He will do that you will one day see. It is through our praise that we can hold onto hope.

In Christ,

Amy Smith
